For the blessed privilege of being...

For the blessed privilege of being a student of Christian Science, I wish to express my deepest thanks. When a small child I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, and as a result of the truth I learned there, I was protected from most so-called children's diseases. Later my two sons enjoyed the same protection.

When my older son was eighteen months of age, he fell into water that had been boiling just a few moments before. He was badly burned. The verdict of a neighbor who knew nothing of Christian Science was that he could not recover. However, by an earnest application of the truths of Christian Science and the realization that God is responsible for the well-being of His child, my son was beautifully and completely healed. No scars were left.

More recently my mother experienced a healing of cancer on her face. Although she thought she had worked to the best of her ability and had requested help at different times from Christian Science practitioners, the growth spread until it covered a large portion of her face. In what she considered her extremity she consulted a medical doctor. He told her that the sight in one eye, which she kept covered, was probably gone. There was nothing he could do, he said, except apply X-ray treatments, which he thought might retard the condition, but he held little or no hope for her recovery.

It was then that she took a radical stand for Christian Science. She came into my home, and we agreed that this condition would not be mentioned, but that we would work as we had been taught to do in Christian Science to see only God's perfect creation. In less than one month's time she was completely healed. She has good sight in both her eyes and today is able to read without the use of glasses, although she is well past eighty years of age.

I am so grateful for having had the wonderful experience of Christian Science class instruction and for the yearly privilege of association meetings, which are truly feasts prepared for those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. Words are inadequate to express the gratitude I feel to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, to Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader, for her life of unselfish service and love, and above all to God for His great goodness, so impartially bestowed upon all mankind.—(Mrs.) Helen J. Karr, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Most gratefully do I verify that portion of my daughter's testimony which relates to my healing. During this testing time, when fear, doubt, impatience, and self-pity would come to thought, the sweet and comforting influence expressed through the hymns in our Christian Science Hymnal unfailingly dispelled the clouds and gave fresh courage. Many hymns were played, sung, and memorized, as my well-worn Hymnal can bear witness. Mrs. Eddy says on page 234 of Science and Health, "Whatever inspires with wisdom, Truth, or Love —be it song, sermon, or Science— blesses the human family with crumbs of comfort from Christ's table, feeding the hungry and giving living waters to the thirsty."
