O give thanks unto the Lord;...

"O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever" (I Chron. 16:34). Because of many problems, I had reached utter despair. In May, 1948, I attended a lecture on Christian Science. I was longing for comfort of some kind, and I know it was the Father's dear love and tender mercy that led me there.

While listening to the lecture, I was healed of social drinking, and I came away with the words, "All is well." The lecture was so satisfying to me and I was so impressed with its fresh viewpoint that I felt impelled to go to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting at the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist. At the meeting I learned that God is Love. That evening when I arrived home, I sat thinking of those words, "God is Love," until I became aware of spiritual light and joy.

Before I had finished reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was healed overnight of a large swelling in my throat, a condition that I had had all my life. The craving for cigarettes left me when my sincere desire was to become a church member. Although I had always been underweight, within a year I gained thirty pounds. Worry, headaches, and nervousness disappeared. I had found the truth. I am so grateful for the overcoming of a quick temper, impatience, self-consciousness, and many fears.
