"Oh that I knew where I might...

"Oh that I knew where I might find him!" (Job 23:3). Like Job, I yearned for God. My yearning was satisfied when Christian Science was presented to me by the young man who later became my husband. During an eager reading of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I was healed of a periodically recurring physical difficulty. This healing has been permanent. A problem in human relationships was also solved when I prayed with all my heart, "Thy will be done," and meant it. I saw the truth of the statement on page 503 of the textbook, "God creates neither erring thought, mortal life, mutable truth, nor variable love."

When our elder son was about six years old, he became desperately ill and was delirious much of the time. Work was taken up by a Christian Science practitioner, and the second evening when his life appeared to be in danger we were asked to ponder the statement in Science and Health (p. 536) where our Leader says, "The divine understanding reigns, is all, and there is no other consciousness."

I saw that the truth of this statement eliminates mother fear, the belief of human parentage, childhood frailty, and the possibility of disease or death—all of which are phantoms of mortal mind and without true existence. My husband roused the child from a pronounced stupor, and we retired with a feeling of freedom and joy. In the morning the child awoke entirely free, active, alert, and normal in every way, and he remained so. I shall never forget the deep blessedness of that day. From that time there was an increase in the boy's receptivity to Truth.
