Christian Science has brought peace and joy into my life by giving me a new concept of God. The old concept of God as a far-off being who is pleased to give good to some and evil to others has been replaced. Now I know the truth of God as Principle, Love, who gives only good to all. I have also learned in Science that prayer is not beseeching an unwilling God for favors, but is the affirmation of the allness and goodness of God and the denial of the power or presence of anything unlike God, good.

I have experienced many healings in Christian Science, such as those of colds, headaches, severe sore throat, an infected toe, and a crushed finger. Lack and grief have likewise been overcome. One winter evening I fell on an icy sidewalk. While walking the rest of the way home, I thought of a similar experience through which our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, had been led to the discovery of Christian Science. My thought became filled with gratitude to our Leader for her unselfishness and great love for mankind in giving us her writings on this discovery. I was unable to be at my place of business for several days, but by holding to the truth that man is not material but spiritual, I returned to work without a trace of any inharmonious condition.

At another time on a very busy street a hurrying passer-by bumped into me with such force that I lost my balance and fell into the street. Others helped me up, and someone remarked that I might have broken a bone. I felt badly shaken up, and there was a severe pain in my left side. Since fear was beginning to flood my thoughts, I called a practitioner for help. The practitioner quieted my fear immediately, and I was able to continue working and to serve in a branch church Reading Room in the evenings. The healing was complete in a very short time.
