OBEDIENCE BRINGS HEALING

"His law of Truth, when obeyed, removes every erroneous physical and mental state." In this simple statement from page 10 of "Rudimental Divine Science" our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, reveals obedience to God as a foundation stone in the practice of Christian Science healing.

It is obvious that obedience to any law requires a knowledge of the law and also an understanding of the way to obey it. The source of the law must be known if we would determine its legality. God, the divine Principle, Love, is the source of all reality. He is the only Mind and power, and consequently the only lawmaker. His law naturally manifests His nature and therefore is good, merciful, and just. The laws of matter claim to sanction both good and evil and to punish the just and the unjust. Christian Science teaches that material laws are not from the divine source and have no power of enforcement.

Moses in the Ten Commandments set forth the moral law. Jesus through the Beatitudes outlined the positive steps required to fulfill this law and reap its blessings. And he said that the two great commandments were to love God with all our heart and soul and mind and our neighbor as ourself. These laws are true because they embody the essence of their source, divine Love. Today Christian Science, the law of God, good, brings to remembrance all that Jesus taught and makes plain the way to obey God's laws—the way which makes their fulfillment a scientific certainty.
