Irvington, New Jersey (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Irvington, was dedicated Sunday. ... A brief history of the growth of Christian Science in Irvington was read.

The first Christian Science services in Irvington were held in one room of the office building at 1039 Springfield Avenue on August 2, 1936. Progress was steady, and by February, 1937, two office walls were taken down so that the auditorium could accommodate the increased attendance. In December, 1936, the church was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, and on July 2, 1937, it was chartered as First Church of Christ, Scientist, Irvington.

In January, 1946, the property at 43 Harrison Place, Irvington, was purchased, and alterations to make the first floor of the building suitable for holding church services were completed, so that on the twenty-fourth of the following month the first services were conducted in their new church home.
