Activities for the Armed Services

[This month's columns are devoted exclusively to a summary of the address given at our Workshop Meeting, June 7, by former Christian Science Chaplain, Norman B. Holmes]

Chaplain Holmes spoke of his Navy experiences substantially as follows:

"When military duties and experiences are viewed through the understanding of Christian Science, the scene comes into proper focus. Instead of boredom and wasted efforts, the military world grows bright with promise. As the children of Israel, under Moses' bidding, learned to stand still at the Red Sea and to go forward under God's protection, so the student of Christian Science, at the threshold of his military experience, learns to stand firm with the tools of his understanding of God in Science and to go forward in this new adventure of living upon which he has embarked.

"The many and varied challenges of military life give the Christian Scientist endless opportunities to sail his good ship, Christian Science, in all kinds of weather and thereby prove that his religion is seaworthy. Through such use, his understanding and efficacy in applying the truth grow until Christian Science becomes to him 'the pearl of great price.' Again and again, a Chaplain, Minister, or Representative has helped a serviceman turn his little used talent of prayer in Christian Science into the star of rejoicing in his crown of military achievements.
