A SENSE OF GOOD

One's sense of good is his ability to perceive spiritual reality, to feel the inner peace which marks man's unity with God. Christian Science defines the sense of good as an immortal faculty belonging to man, God's spiritual likeness. Anyone understanding that his sense of good is immortal and undisturbable is able to hold to it regardless of human problems. But one not understanding the facts regarding man's consciousness of good may believe that he is easily upset and emotionally responsive to human discords.

The consciousness of good is not something of our own making, something which may be taken from us. There is but one good— God—and man retains the understanding of good eternally. As we see this fact, we not only maintain our sense of harmony, but we deepen and expand it.

Early in my study of Christian Science an experienced Scientist said to me, "Your sense of good will grow." This was a simple statement, but it opened to my thought the vast possibilities of the development of Science. I saw that if one would retain his consciousness of good on the basis that harmony alone is present and real and tangible, he would be able to rule out all evil from his experience. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 311), "Evil is destroyed by the sense of good."
