My first blessing in Christian Science...

My first blessing in Christian Science was the elimination of excessive fear for the well-being of my two children, who were sick a great deal. At one time my little son had been ill for several weeks. Three doctors, one of whom was a specialist, were at a loss to help him or even to name the difficulty.

Finally, in desperation, I called a Christian Science practitioner, who came to us at once. She talked to my two little ones and me about God's love and care. The children drank in the truth, and soon after she left, my son said, "I'm going to get out of bed." A few minutes later he stated, "I'm going to get dressed." Then he said, "I'm going out of doors." He did so, and that was the end of his illness. After this beautiful experience both children had the privilege of attending a Christian Science Sunday School for a number of years, and they became strong and healthy.

When my son, then a navigator in the Second World War, was leaving for England during the heaviest of the Allied air activity, I asked him if he was afraid. His immediate answer was, "No." I replied, "Neither am I." The reason why I was not afraid was that he had a good foundation in Christian Science. I knew that he was not going out to kill, but to help make this world a better place in which to live. Moreover, I knew that he was not going out to die, "for in [God] we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28). It was clear to me that there is no height, no depth, and no space on land or sea where God is not present with His everlasting arms and protecting love. My son took Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy with him to study on every mission, and all his crew came back home safe.
