Christian Science has brought so much joy into my life during the past thirty-five years that I should like to share one of my experiences. Many years ago my home was broken up, and I found myself with a small daughter to support. We were forced to leave our lovely house and move into a basement apartment. I had no income but what I could earn, which was not much at that time. My resentment was so great at having to live in such a place that I refused even to put up curtains.

One day my little daughter asked why she had to live in a basement. I was startled at the question and answered, "Because it is my highest concept of home right now." I pondered my answer and decided that if a basement was the best concept of home I had at that time I must love it and be grateful for it. I set about doing so by painting the walls, putting up window curtains, and making it as beautiful as possible, all the while being grateful that it provided shelter and warmth.

Within a month a stranger, someone who had charge of a very beautiful apartment, called me. She said that she had a vacancy and asked if I would like it. It seemed fantastic that we could live in such a lovely place on my income. She asked what we paid where we were, and when I told her she asked for time to think the matter over. Within a week she called, saying that we could have the apartment at the same price as the basement apartment. We gratefully accepted it and lived there until a home was established with a loving companion who is a Christian Scientist.
