"A NEW LANGUAGE"

Everyone loves his mother tongue, his native language. In it he feels that he can best express his thoughts. But the Scriptures prophetically describe a new tongue promised by God. Zephaniah records God's determination to stamp out earthliness, and these words follow (3:9): "Then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent." And Christ Jesus' last words to his disciples described those who would believe in his mission Mark 16:17): "In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues."

The coming of Christian Science fulfilled these prophecies from the Old and the New Testaments. Mary Baker Eddy says in "No and Yes" (p. 44): "Christian Science invokes a new language, and a higher demonstration of medicine and religion. It is the 'new tongue' of Truth, having its best interpretation in the power of Christianity to heal."

To achieve power to heal, one needs to grasp the explanations of real being which were revealed to our Leader. He needs to understand the human language she utilized so skillfully in her effort to make the new tongue of Truth fully available. Mrs. Eddy used every conceivable means to express what she discerned of divine Science. She had the great resources of the English language to draw upon, and she used them with rare command. She also introduced descriptive words through various language media to make her meaning clear.
