There was a time in my life when...
There was a time in my life when I thought that there was no God: I was alone, and I had no money and hardly any food. As I could not find work, I finally accepted charity.
Later an opportunity came for me to do housework on a large ranch. This work I accepted, but the suggestion came: "Why should you do such work as this? You are foolish." The desire for a life of case kept presenting itself to me very strongly, and sometimes the thought came that the only way out of my troubles was self-destruction. The fact that I had a child to support, however, kept me from such an act.
