It is with great joy and deep...
It is with great joy and deep gratitude that I give thanks to God for Christian Science. For more than twelve years it has been to me a valuable source of blessings. Through its teachings I have learned to know God as He really is and man as His image, therefore perfect and unassailable. Seeing my neighbor as actually a child of God, and not an imperfect mortal, has very often helped me in my relations with my fellow men.
Before I knew of Science my health was endangered by a disease affecting principally my heart, nerves, and thyroid gland. I heard friends talking about Christian Science, and though I did not know then that it would become to me a beacon, lighting my way, I decided to investigate it. I still remember my astonishment when I learned that it is necessary to consider sickness as an error, because God is not its author. "God did not create sickness, and it is not His will that you be in such a condition," I was told. This statement left me perplexed, even though it helped to restore my courage. Having consulted several doctors, taken rests, medicines, and tonics for years without much benefit, I had believed it was the will of God that I bear my cross. I have since learned that to take up one's cross is not to accept evil but, on the contrary, to exclude it entirely from one's consciousness.
Through reading first The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition) and then "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and through attending a Church of Christ, Scientist, and studying the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, I acquainted myself with Truth. My progress was very slow, because I had difficulty in accepting this new religion. Error kept trying to suggest to me that Mrs. Eddy was only a woman and that, after all, she could have been wrong. However, the marvelous logic of all her writings did not fail to make a deep impression on my consciousness.
