HELPING ONESELF

No one is able to do as much for us as God, omnipotent and ever-present Love. Therefore our ability to help ourselves increases in the proportion that we understand God and rely on our God-given resources.

Christ Jesus is our perfect example of self-reliance. He trusted unreservedly in his Father-Mother God and used to the fullest the capacities and resources God unceasingly bestows on man, His beloved son. Whether it was to obtain tax money for himself and his disciples or to remove himself to safety from an angry crowd intent upon his destruction, his self-reliant trust in God and His bestowals never wavered. They always met triumphantly the challenges of human life.

Proving in large measure man's divine dominion, Paul, the Master's faithful follower, declared (Phil. 4: 13), "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." But does not the tendency of many today to lean on others for support, rather than to make an effort themselves, indicate that the lesson of true self-reliance has not been sufficiently learned?
