WHERE DID I COME FROM?

There is not a greater or more important question agitating the masses of humanity today, or one whose answer is of more vital interest to mankind, than is the question, Where did I come from? or, in other words, What is the true Science of being? And why so important? Because the answer involves an understanding of perfect God and perfect man, which alone results in the health, harmony, and happiness for which the world is seeking and striving.

In response to this question many answers are given as to the origin of man. The correct answer to this question was given by Christ Jesus when he said (John 16:28), "I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father;" and (John 10:30), "I and my Father are one." These declarations clearly indicate that Jesus accepted just one origin, just one fatherhood; the creator and creation depicted in the first chapter of Genesis, where we read that God created man in His own image and likeness.

It was on this premise that the lifework of Jesus was based. He came to demonstrate the Christ, the real selfhood of man. He never accepted the false belief of man as outlined in the second chapter of Genesis—the man formed of the dust of the ground. He never judged after the flesh. Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."
