More than twenty-eight years ago...

More than twenty-eight years ago Christian Science came to my notice. A casual reading of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, quickly convinced me that this was the religion I had for some years been seeking. Confidence in God and a consciousness of His presence were what I most longed for. I began a study of the textbook and other authorized literature, attended a Church of Christ, Scientist, and in due time was accepted for membership in it. Later I received class instruction.

The first time I heard the Lesson-sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly read from the desk at church, I learned the truth that man is God's reflection. As reflection is never separate from its original, I reasoned, so man is never apart from God, but always in His presence. Here was a firm basis on which to rely for the assurance I so greatly needed. For the first time in my life I had a glimpse of man in God's image and likeness, wholly spiritual.

I began to test Science by using the rules laid down in the textbook. The following is but an inadequate record of the healings experienced in our home throughout the years. Our son was successful in passing school and professional examinations through knowing that God is the only intelligence, though formerly he had been nervous and fearful of examinations. At one period of his studies it appeared that, because of financial difficulties, there was little prospect of completing his education. He and I were confident, however, that God had never planned frustration for His children. As we went forward in faith and trust, knowing that God's work is already complete, he was able to gain all the qualifications for his profession. He now enjoys a happy and useful career.
