PROVING GOD'S OMNIPOTENCE

The opportunity to demonstrate the omnipotence of God is available to all. Christian Science shows us the way to this demonstration. It teaches us that there can be but one power because there is but one God. It is necessary only for us to accept this basic fact and understand it in order to make it demonstrable.

When a suggestion of discord in any form presents itself, if we analyze it carefully we shall not take it into consciousness. By recognizing the suggestion for what it is—an argument of a power separate from God, good—we render it powerless. We have stripped it of its disguise and recognized its author—mortal mind. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 392): "Stand porter at the door of thought. Admitting only such conclusions as you wish realized in bodily results, you will control yourself harmoniously."

Recently I had an opportunity to demonstrate the truth of this statement. When I was inducted into the United States Army, I found the change from civilian life a great one. Adjusting to military ways seemed very difficult at times. On several occasions while I was going through basic training, the thought of resentment presented itself. Mortal mind seemed very active at the time, and I unwittingly accepted the suggestion that I was not going to like the Army or anyone connected with it. Because I did not perform my office as porter faithfully, the door was wide open for Satan, or mortal mind, to enter.
