"EVEN AS HE IS PURE"

In the midst of the materialism of his time, Christ Jesus uttered that great pronouncement which is destined to free all mankind from the bondage of materiality (Matt. 5:8), "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." Purification of sense and self by divine Science is necessary in order that we may see God, and this spiritual awakening saves mortals from all "ills that flesh is heir to." The regenerating and healing activities of the Christ, Truth, cleanse consciousness, making it more transparent for the light and might of divine Mind to enter and thus heal and bless.

The beloved disciple John said (I John 3:2,3): "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure." It is significant and enlightening to note that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was divinely led to include this passage as a part of the Sunday service which is read in every Christian Science church throughout the world.

Mrs. Eddy shows how spiritual understanding reveals the man of God's creating when she states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 185), "The spiritualization of our sense of man opens the gates of paradise that the so-called material senses would close, and reveals man infinitely blessed, upright, pure, and free; having no need of statistics by which to learn his origin and age, or to measure his manhood, or to know how much of a man he ever has been: for, 'as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.'"
