Church Members Need to Appreciate and Use Them

[Extracts from reports prepared for the Reading Room Division by two librarians and an executive board.]

Dublin, Ireland

At a business meeting the members once passed a resolution that steps be taken to find suitable quarters in the city for our Reading Room. The Reading Room was then maintained in the church edifice far from any busy thoroughfare. The experiences that are regularly reported in the "Our Reading Rooms" columns of the Sentinel reminded many of us of this resolution, but every time the question of relocating was brought before the members the cost of this step seemed too great.

All this time the salesroom and study room were one. A small room across the hall was cleared and equipment necessary for a proper salesroom installed. This, we felt, was an active expression of our earnest desire to be obedient to our highest concept of a Reading Room. Immediately our sales improved and our orders for The Christian Science Monitor doubled. This forward step and its effective results led to a general awakening. Our board appointed a committee to work for the furtherance of our object of getting a suitable city location for our Reading Room. The cost of doing this remained a stumbling block. However, during a business meeting a member put forward the idea that we pay off an indebtedness. This amount was subscribed in full before we left the meeting. The special committee for the Reading Room then felt that more definite steps could be taken toward finding a city location. When this was found, the rent was such that all members were satisfied.
