THE BEAUTIFUL AND HARMONIOUS UNIVERSE

The sparkling snow was still falling, though the sun had broken through the clouds; a beautiful cardinal was sitting on a snowladen branch joyously singing, the brilliant red of his feathers surrounded by the contrasting white of the snow. Such beautiful things as these—lovely flowers, a glorious sunrise or sunset, a melody, fragrance, moonlight on the water— multiplied a million times can only hint the beauty and wonder of God's fresh and fair universe. However, in contemplation of them thought is often lifted to catch glimpses of spiritual realities unseen to material sense.

God is unchanging, for God is Principle. Principle is the Father-Mother God, all-harmonious. Principle is the One "altogether lovely." Principle is perfect Life. So the expression of Principle, God—man and the universe—is harmonious, unchanging, perfect. When one begins the study of Christian Science, the spiritual universe seems dim and distant, but this is only because the mist—the false testimony of material sense—seems to be present. And this unfoldment of spiritual truth dispels material sense, and the spiritually substantial becomes real to the individual.

God's universe is an indestructible universe, it is the realm of Spirit, the universe of ideas. In it there is no matter, no corporeality. It is a universe peopled with spiritual individualities, not material personalities. In it man, the highest idea in Spirit's universe, forever exists at the standpoint of perfection, the image and likeness of perfect Mind. He is aware of the spiritual identity of everything in the universe of Spirit, God. God's universe is a universe of order, for each idea is subject only to perfect Principle. In this realm of Mind everything —every idea—is intelligent, useful, harmonious, indestructible, beautiful. Each idea reflects the nature of Love. Each idea is the perfect expression of Life.
