BUDDY USES HIS TALENT

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Buddy hurried home from school late one November day with some news for his mother. His teacher wanted him to sing with other boys and girls of the school in the Christmas pageant. Mother was happy to hear this, for she knew that Buddy had a talent for singing and that it should be used so that it would grow.

Once before, Buddy had been chosen to sing a solo, but he was so shy and fearful that he had asked to be excused. Mother saw the troubled look on his face now and called him to her side. He told her that not all the boys in his class were chosen to sing; only the ones with the best voices. And he said that he had heard some of the older boys laughing and making fun of the younger boys when they were practicing on the stage.

Mother knew how to turn frowns into smiles whenever Buddy was troubled; so together they sat on the sofa, and she took from the table two very important books. Buddy knew these books very well, for every Sunday he carried them in his case to the Christian Science Sunday School, and his teacher explained the truths of God and man to the pupils. Then often, before he went to sleep, either his mother or his father would read from these books—the Holy Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Sometimes also they read to him a story about Mrs. Eddy when she was a little girl from "A Child's Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Ella H. Hay. This reading time with his parents always made Buddy feel very happy.
