TRUE REST

The tempo of life is often so fast that the older generation may sigh for the more leisurely days of their youth. The constant rumors of war, descriptions of weapons of vast destructive potential, and a seeming lack of security for the future have bred a great restlessness and lack of satisfaction.

True happiness comes only with peace of mind, serenity of thought, based on calm trust in God. Christ Jesus' invitation (Matt. 11:28), "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest," can be accepted today as surely as when it was first issued. When Jesus added, "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me ...and ye shall find rest unto your souls," he was not talking of bodily rest, but of mental peace and contentment, which are far more potent in resting the body than long hours of physical rest.

Christian Science, which was discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy, offers a way of life founded on that of Jesus, our great Exemplar. Through the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, thought is revolutionized, and we begin to regard ourselves not as mortals struggling against all manner of odds in a difficult world, but as spiritual ideas—heirs of God enjoying His abundant goodness.
