I should like to take this opportunity...

I should like to take this opportunity of thanking God for all the blessings that Christian Science has brought me, including the spiritual progress I experienced during my period of national service. Twenty months of this time was spent in the Suez Canal Zone. Many instances of the overcoming of sense testimony have proved Mary Baker Eddy's words on page 83 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she states, "Science only can explain the incredible good and evil elements now coming to the surface."

Whilst I was awaiting transportation to the Middle East I had an unsettled feeling, as our final destination was not revealed until we were actually in flight. However, through applying the truths I had learned at Sunday School this feeling was eliminated. I realized that God is omnipresent and that His perfect child could not possibly be hindered by locality from enjoying the at-one-ment of Principle and its idea.

At the time of my arrival in Egypt there was no Christian Science organization in the vicinity, but Mrs. Eddy's definition of "Church" on page 583 of Science and Health was held in consciousness, and a clear conception of true service was maintained. Within a matter of a few weeks four of us held our first service in a most appropriate lounge, conveniently situated for all. From that moment on we knew that our purpose was to share the bread of spiritual understanding, and numerous demonstrations brought increased gratitude for Christian Science and its practicability.
