As a child I often wondered why...

As a child I often wondered why people wept when they said friends had "gone to heaven." My Sunday School had portrayed heaven as a place of wondrous beauty, golden streets, and pearly gates. As the years went by and I beheld the tangled web of human experience, my perplexity so increased that I was ever asking, "Where and what is God?" I decided to consult some of those whose positions in life led one to assume that they could provide enlightenment and comfort. Always I found them kind and sympathetic, but my searching questions usually met with an urgent request to realize that as yet there were many things that could not be understood.

Finally a learned prelate told me frankly that he believed God permitted evil as a means of testing His children. This thought sent me away in rebellious tears. I felt as Mary Magdalene must have when she said (John 20:13), "They have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him."

However, God heard my prayer that I might find Him, and before long Christian Science with its inspired and mighty logic came to provide the means for doing so. It came with healing in its wings, bringing both mental and physical freedom. Over a period of time I have been healed of kidney infection, lung and throat trouble, prostrating sick headaches, high blood pressure, a back injury, and many other difficulties. For the love and devotion of Christian Science practitioners, through whom these healings have come, words are inadequate to express my gratitude.
