Though I had benefited by my mother's work in Christian Science since she first began its study, it was not until I was healed of internal injuries sustained in an automobile accident that I was awakened to study this religion for myself.
I am particularly grateful for the healing of a very serious eye Infection. Though there was little pain, the appearance was quite alarming and annoying. Finally the infection settled in both eyes, and the condition grew so serious that I had daily treatment by a practitioner for a month.
I shall always be grateful for the love and patience she expressed. She assured me that sight is spiritual and that in reality I was the image and reflection of God, good. I earnestly studied the Christian Science literature to spiritualize my thought and gain a better understanding of God. As my thought centered more on God instead of on a healing, progress was evidenced. The healing was slow, but it has been permanent. During this trying period Hymn No. 202 in the Christian Science Hymnal was a constant source of inspiration. It reads in part:
