Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Burlington, Vermont (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Burlington, at Bay View and Union Streets, will be dedicated at a public Thanksgiving service tomorrow at 10.45 a.m.

In 1913 a group of students of Christian Science met at the Howard Relief Building on Pearl Street. Christian Science Society, Burlington, was organized, ... and recognized by The First Church of Christ, Scientist, Boston. The hall in the Howard Relief Building was rented and Sunday services were held there. A Sunday School was begun.

The society grew in membership, and in 1920 it became a ... church with the name of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Burlington. A Reading Room was maintained in the Howard Relief Building and was opened each afternoon.

The lot at South Union and Bay View Streets was purchased in 1927, and the edifice was completed that November.

A room at the front of this building was used for a Reading Room until 1933, when two rooms on Main Street were rented and the Reading Room located there.
