I returned home from the First...
I returned home from the First World War a very sick man, broken in body and mind. Soon after my return I was subjected to a severe operation, which tried me still further, both physically and mentally. This operation was not successful, and I was faced with another. My condition was such that I feared for my reason if I had to undergo another operation, and as I was still under military authority there seemed little choice in the matter.
It was then that Christian Science was introduced to me, and work was taken up on my behalf by a practitioner. Almost immediately the medical attitude toward my case changed. The proposed operation was abandoned, and I was discharged from the Army.
My health improved rapidly, and I was able to return to work. There lingered with me, however, periods of mental stress which seemed to overwhelm me from time to time. However, through the years I clung to Christian Science, actively serving the Cause in church work.
