One night I awakened and found...

One night I awakened and found that my heart was beating very faintly, and my body felt quite numb. I felt that if I tried to go into another room to telephone a practitioner I might pass on, so it was necessary for me to apply my own understanding of Christian Science. I repeated part of the twenty-third Psalm, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me," and also part of the ninety-first Psalm, "Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day." This thought came to me: God is my Life; material existence is a dream, and whether it continues or ends, I live because God lives. I kept repeating the verses from Psalms over and over again until I fell asleep. The next morning I awoke healed.

Other healings have been those of a broken toe, colds, and severe headaches. A proof of God's care was shown following an accident in which my right leg had doubled under my body with the foot bent under the leg. I was planning to go to Chicago on a shopping trip the next day and would have a great deal of walking to do. Fear tried to creep in, but after I had done mental work, as Christian Science teaches us to do, I left the field to God rejoicingly. This happened late in the afternoon, and I left early the next morning. There was not one bit of inconvenience in any way; in fact, I forgot completely about my foot until a day or two later, when I saw there were no signs of a sprain.

I am thankful that I had the privilege of class instruction from one of the students of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and that I have been able to attend all of my association meetings. For our lectures, for the church services, and for the joy of serving on church committees, I am indeed grateful.—(Mrs.) Mary Lou Klein, Pekin, Illinois.
