THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Light is a distinctive symbol and attribute of God. Every idea of Mind, being a manifestation of intelligence, functions in its infinite unfoldment as light. In Genesis one reads that God's creative mandate was, "Let there be light," let there be understanding; and this declared Word of God reveals reality in its immeasurable aspects. It reveals Truth, or God, as the wholeness of actuality. Truth always functions as light and, in the human sense of things, as enlightenment and spiritual perception.

In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 504), "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence."

Mental freedom and continuity of health and happiness are conditions that all human beings instinctively desire but have seldom seemed to attain in any satisfactory measure. They have sought in many directions for health, without success. They have tried and are trying devious material ways to find happiness, but the evidence before us today does not indicate its attainment.
