I wish to express my deep gratitude...

I wish to express my deep gratitude for the privilege which is offered us through the study and practice of Christian Science of experiencing, according to our understanding, "the glorious liberty of the children of God" (Rom. 8:21). It is a great joy to me to learn of God, divine Principle, and of man, who reflects His intelligence and infinite goodness.

Before I knew of Christian Science I had lost all faith in God. Although I felt that the universe must he governed by a force superior to matter. I refused to believe in a God who was capable of creating the conditions which I saw about me. I had no hope, except that I considered death a liberator, and I was often tormented by thoughts of suicide. I was living in bondage to the so-called physical senses.

Among other things, I had been subjected to X-ray treatment in the hope of easing my suffering, attributed to weakness of the spine, which I had had since childhood. Instead of lessening the suffering, these treatments, according to the doctors, had affected other organs. There did not seem to be any hope of healing for this new problem, and I was only plunged more deeply into despair.

It was at this time that I heard of Christian Science and turned to it unhesitatingly. However, I needed to clear from my consciousness the belief in the reality of all this erroneous thinking. A passage from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was very encouraging (p. 384): "God never punishes man for doing right, for honest labor, or for deeds of kindness, though they expose him to fatigue, cold, heat, contagion. If man seems to incur the penalty through matter, this is but a belief of mortal mind, not an enactment of wisdom, and man has only to enter his protest against this belief in order to annul it. Through this action of thought and its results upon the body, the student will prove to himself, by small beginnings, the grand verities of Christian Science."

I asked for help from a practitioner, whose patient, consecrated work, full of understanding and love, enabled me to overcome many difficulties. She helped me until harmony had been completely reestablished.

I have had still other healings— of nephritis, angina, coughing, boils, catarrh, and an abscess at the root of a tooth. Business and home difficulties have also been overcome through my study and application of Christian Science. When my mother passed on, the practitioner's help was so effective that the temptation to grieve was immediately dispelled.

The work done by Mrs. Eddy and all those who through her example are endeavoring to follow the way outlined by Christ Jesus inspire me with profound gratitude. Every day Christian Science is helping mankind to leave the bondage of the material senses and to grasp the true sense of life in God. With joy I can make mine the words of the Psalmist (Ps. 40:5), "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward." May I by diligence, devotion, and consecration to our Cause so purify my consciousness that I reflect God's grace and am of help to our great movement.—(Mrs.) Erminia Baude, Brussels, Belgium.
