THE ACTIVITY OF DIVINE PRINCIPLE

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy asks this compelling question (p. 3): "Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem?" She goes on: "The rule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution. Shall we ask the divine Principle of all goodness to do His own work? His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God's rule in order to receive His blessing, which enables us to work out our own salvation."

Thus does the Leader of the Christian Science movement show the practicability of divine Principle, its adaptation to human needs, and mankind's responsibility in proving its presence through the scientific rules of Christian Science. Students of this Science, equipped with the spiritual understanding of divine Principle and its law, have a high duty to perform. The opportunity is before them to go forth to break the claim to false law which seems not only to exist for themselves, but to hold mankind in bondage to fear, sickness, sin, and death.

The word Principle, as Mrs. Eddy uses it, is a synonym for God. Divine Principle is the source of law and order in the universe. It produces and maintains unbroken and eternal harmony. Principle is the unchanging, ever-present, divine intelligence which governs all reality with absolutely inviolable authority.
