It is now thirty years since I...

It is now thirty years since I first began to study Christian Science at a time when I felt the need for a more practical religion than that which I had followed from my boyhood. Prejudice against what I considered the unorthodoxy of Mrs. Eddy's teachings held me back for a time; but the many cases of healing which came to my notice eventually convinced me that Christian Science is indeed the truth.

I became a member of The Mother Church and of a Christian Science Society in India. The need for Christian Science in India was great, and workers were very few. I am humbly grateful for having been able to fulfill every duty undertaken during a period of fourteen years in spite of unfavorable climate conditions, racial antagonisms, and exacting business and social obligations. I also received the blessing of class instruction whilst on a visit to England.

In my profession of civil engineer I found that problems which had given me much anxious thought became simple and easy of solution when viewed in the light of Christian Science. On one occasion some difficult excavation work for which I had assumed responsibility seemed likely, as the result of a sudden rainstorm, to lead to much public inconvenience and damage to property. The situation was completely restored in a few hours when I realized the truth of these words from Psalms (95:4) given in the Responsive Reading of the Lesson-Sermon for that week in the Christian Science Quarterly: "In his hand are the deep places of the earth."
