I wish to express my deep gratitude...

I wish to express my deep gratitude to God for His goodness, as well as to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and to Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader. I have been a student of Christian Science for many years and have enjoyed its fruitage and protection during all this time.

When I was a student in high school I took a trip to the mountains one week end. The automobile I was driving was filled with furniture. As I was nearing a curve in the road a spindle broke, causing me to lose control of the car, which turned on its side and rolled down a twenty-foot embankment. The car was demolished; but I crawled out from under what was left of it untouched except for minor bruises.

A friend who arrived on the scene insisted on an immediate examination by a doctor nearby, but he could find nothing wrong. During his examination and my ride back to town I kept repeating "the scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The following morning I was in school, having suffered no aftereffects from the accident.

During the many intervening years since then I have had many proofs of God's care. Recently I experienced a physical healing, of which I wish to tell. One morning I awakened barely able to rise and dress myself. A very severe pain at the base of my spine made it difficult for me to move about in comfort. My first thought was that I would not be able to take care of my daily work. Then I realized that all true business is God's business and that I must be up and about my Father's business. I asked the help of a Christian Scientist, and consecrated work was taken up.

At this time a growth developed on each of my eyes, causing them to feel irritated, as if something were in them. There was less fear concerning this condition, however, and consequently it was the first to disappear. One morning I noticed that irritation and growths were no longer there.

As the metaphysical work progressed, many helpful points were brought out, the most outstanding being the thought of my at-one-ment with God. It was pointed out to me that a belief of lack was attempting to manifest itself in the world and that apparently I was accepting this belief. By reversing this suggestion and seeing that all is Spirit, God, wherein there can be no place for lack, I gained the turning point in my condition. The statement from "Unity of Good" in which Mrs. Eddy says (p. 31), "If God is Spirit, and God is All, surely there can be no matter; for the divine All must be Spirit," was very helpful to me. I realized that as a spiritual idea of God I could reflect nothing unlike Him. I started declaring the allness of God, the omnipotence of Spirit, and my freedom from error as God's image and likeness. From then on progress was swift, although complete freedom did not come for about five weeks. I am very grateful for this proof that through Christian Science the power of Christ, Truth, is here for all of us to utilize.

For many other proofs of God's protection and care, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for class instruction from a consecrated teacher, and for the opportunity I have had to serve our Cause in various capacities, I am indeed most grateful.—Bernard Earl Noyes, Los Angeles, California.
