LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

One of your recent issues contains the first of several articles to he written on faith healing. In this first article the author writes: "Christian Science is not one movement apart, but a branch of a great movement having many ramifications.... It springs from the belief that there are powers in the mind able to overcome all diseases without any kind of medicine, these powers acting through faith."

May I point out that as far as Christian Science is concerned that is an entirely false premise. Healing the sick through the agency of the human or carnal mind has existed throughout time; it existed when Christ Jesus was on earth, and people in those days accused him of healing by such means (see Luke 11:14–26). Our Master maintained, however, that he performed his works on a different basis. He said, "But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you" (v. 20).
