The Christian Scientist's "Daily Prayer"...

The Christian Scientist's "Daily Prayer" reads in part (Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy, Art. VIII, Sect. 4), "Let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin."

For several years I indulged in social drinking, although I derived no pleasure from it, and I knew that I was wasting my time. Finally I came to the place where I wanted to attend church and associate with people who knew God and talked intelligently of Him. I attended several Protestant churches and then finally found Christian Science.

I became so interested in my new-found friend. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, that it did not occur to me no one had come in to see me or had called me by telephone for nearly two weeks. Then one Wednesday evening a friend called and asked me to attend a party for a mutual acquaintance, at which I knew alcoholic drinks would be served. I immediately told her that I was attending church. She then offered to meet me after church. I knew from past experience that if I refused, the whole party would probably come to my house and awaken my household. As I did not want them disturbed, I accepted, with the thought that God would protect me from drinking and doing the things that these friends would expect of me. From that minute I started praying, "Lead me not into temptation, but deliver me from evil."
