THOUGHT DIRECTS

When we accept Christian Science, we adopt a way of thinking, and this way of thinking does not permit us to consult matter or material sense concerning our state of health, wealth, and general well-being. Indeed, after we have seen and proved the truth of any one scientific fact revealed in Christian Science, there is no justification for our accepting as true any evidence suggested by material sense, for Mary Baker Eddy informs us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 329): "A little leaven leavens the whole lump. A little understanding of Christian Science proves the truth of all that I say of it."

If the evidence claims to be sickness, we must declare it to be false, because we know that sickness is not of God, good, and is therefore no part of man. If the evidence claims to be health, abundance, and happiness, we must realize that because God did not create matter, matter is powerless to bestow these good things, and that harmony is ours because man is the reflection of God.

Even when it seems most powerful, error is never anything more than suggestion, and we can and must reject any false mental suggestion about ourselves, our affairs, or the world situation. It is important for us to remember that whereas mortal mind can only suggest, divine Mind imparts true knowledge. A suggestion of mortal mind may be attended by fear, panic, depression, or joy in matter; whereas the truth conveyed by Mind allays fear, strengthens hope, and by reminding us of what God is, and of what man by reflection must be, leads us into the realization that our human experience is inevitably the result of our thinking. Therefore we must admit only Godlike thoughts if we would see the works of God made manifest in us. Let us do this, however, for the glory of God, and let God outline the effect of it in terms of our daily dominion and harmony.
