My first contact with this liberating truth occurred almost fifty years ago, when I was in high school. When I learned that a classmate who consistently excelled me in certain work was a Christian Scientist. I felt that she had an unfair advantage in having some sort of help that I did not have.

After I was married I observed the beautiful and harmonious family life of some of my husband's family. When I took our baby to spend the day with them, although it was a long way to wheel a heavy carriage, I came home rested and happy, in contrast to the weariness I usually felt after such a jaunt. I knew they were Christian Scientists, and I diffidently began to ask a few questions. Shortly, however, we were transferred to a city a thousand miles from home, where we knew no one.

Our three-year-old daughter became very ill, and the treatment given by the doctor did not seem to help her. I saw a copy of The Christian Science Monitor in the house where we were rooming, and when I found that I was with a family that followed this religion. I asked for guidance and started to study in earnest. The two treatments given by a practitioner healed our daughter of what two physicians have since said was probably mastoiditis, as an abscess behind her ear broke and drained for some time. Deafness was instantaneously healed. From then on I never wavered in my conviction that I had found the Comforter that was promised us by Christ Jesus.
