Birkenhead, Cheshire, England (First Church).

Dedication services were held at First Church of Christ, Scientist, Village Road, Oxton, on Sunday, December 10, 1950.

Recounting a history of the church, the First Reader said a group of Christian Scientists first met in Derwent Road, Birkenhead, about December, 1910.

A move was later made to 6, Alfred Road, and here in January, 1913, a Christian Science Society was formally recognized by the Board of Directors of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass.

Eventually a move was made to 42, Shrewsbury Road, and in 1918 weekly testimony metings were established. In 1920 there was another move to 6, Devonshire Place. Two years later the society gave the first Christian Science lecture in Birkenhead, and in 1924 the society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Birkenhead.

The present premises, which are located in Village Road, Oxton, were purchased in 1925.
