"PLEASE COME IN AND REST"
Have you ever climbed the cobbled way of a steep lane on a hot summer's day? If so, you will know with what relief a break in a stone wall is welcomed, especially when the gate, behind which are shady trees and old-world flowers, carries the inscription, "Please Come In and Rest." This wish to share a good thing, this thoughtfulness of the owner, surely reflects divine Love. So did the thought of Mary Baker Eddy reflect this Love when she was inspired to provide through Christian Science Reading Rooms rest and refreshment for weary ones all over the world. Religion's foremost pioneer woman proved her matchless foresight in rightly assessing mankind's need of spiritual food.
Many hundreds must have tasted deep spiritual refreshment for the first time at one of these Reading Rooms. Timidly, perhaps, they entered, to be at once reassured by the kindly welcome. Deeds of love, more fragrant than flowers, bloom there. Everywhere with cheerfulness and unselfishness Christian Scientists in charge of Reading Rooms answer questions, offer encouragement, and reassure with healing thought and word, thus reflecting the one cause of all existence, the universal Father-Mother God, and bringing to light the rest of which the prophet Isaiah said (Isa. 28: 12, Rev. Ver.), "Give ye rest to him that is weary; and this is the refreshing."
Seeming barrages of fear are gently dissolved by the spiritual peace found in a Christian Science Reading Room. Its very quiet, neatness, and comfort irresistibly appeal to storm-tossed mortals. Flowers bring to mind the Master's lilies and his plea to forget worry by trusting our Father in heaven.
