THE APPEAL OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE

In the third chapter of Revelation the appeal of the Christ to human hearts is figuratively pictured in these loved words: "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." This promise is for all men in all times, for Christ is as omnipresent and ever present as God. The Christ, so Christian Science reveals, is the Son of God, the divine manifestation, and the voice of Christ is heard by all who are awakening to their real manhood as God's likeness and find themselves desiring purity and opportunity to serve above all else.

Today Christ is coming to humanity through the healing ministry of Christian Science, and its appeal is to spiritual manhood. Its message of God's allness and man's perfection reaches those who are ready to admit in true meekness that the fragile, changeable, unreliable phantasms that make up mental existence are totally unreal.

Mary Baker Eddy says of Christian Science (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 252): "It is universal. It appeals to man as man; to the whole and not to a portion; to man physically, as well as spiritually, and to all mankind." Christian Science is universal because it evidences the presence of the one universal all-embracing Mind. God, and for that reason it is found healing and instructing individuals from all races, creeds, and occupations, and often in remote and isolated districts. Individuals find Christian Science because they are ripe for the truths it unfolds. Divine Mind demonstrates the omnipresence of real consciousness, and real consciousness is Truth, divine Principle. The acceptance of Christian Science means simply that the real self is becoming evident and ruling out the ignorant beliefs that constitute a mortal.
