OUR SACRED TRUST

The things of the Spirit are sacred. They are not to be lightly considered or associated with that which is not spiritual. The Scriptures, when spiritually understood in the light of Christian Science, inform us of the spiritual facts of being; therefore they are sacred. Mary Baker Eddy so regarded them. She writes in the Christian Science textbook,

"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 547): "The Scriptures are very sacred. Our aim must be to have them understood spiritually, for only by this understanding can truth be gained."

Our estimate of a subject is measured by the respect or reverence we accord to it. If summoned to undertake a great and important mission in any legitimate field of endeavor, we would naturally approach it with thoughtful concern and perhaps find it necessary to give it much time and attention. If this is true of a secular duty, how much more when we undertake the greatest of all missions, namely the study and practice of Christian Science. This practice is a holy calling and demands consecration to good of a high order if the full fruitage of its promise is to be realized. The Christian Science textbook is a book of revealed truth, explaining the Scriptures in their spiritual meaning and thereby bringing light, healing, and regeneration to mankind.
