GOOD IS SOVEREIGN

The newcomer to Christian Science may find the statement, "Good is sovereign," startling. Somewhat skeptically he may ask: "Is it really so? Doesn't it rather seem as if there were two powers in perpetual combat with each other? Does not evil often prevail over good?" To the mortal senses it at times seems so. Christian Science declares and proves, however, that good is sovereign because God is good, and all true being is the manifestation of God. This good is ever present; it is all because nothing exists besides God. In good there can be no evil. What seems to be evil is therefore not real and has never for a moment been real. This fact brings to light the great truth that good is supreme.

Good is the creative Principle, Love, the source of all true being. God is not the creator of transitory corporeality. All that God creates is the reflection of divine Principle, the reflection of good. Man's real self is the expression of Love, of good. Man in God's likeness can therefore be good only.

God is the Soul of man and the spiritual universe. To be sure, the material senses give us a different picture, which, however, is false, a lie of the deceiver, mortal mind. Today, thanks to Christian Science, we know that the belief in a power apart from God, good, is an illusion and not the truth of being. It is Truth's supposititous opposite, error. This illusion is unknown to God, existing only in mortal belief. How important and useful it is, therefore, to learn to recognize the truth that the Soul of all is good.
