About twenty years ago at the...
About twenty years ago at the difficult birth of our twin sons, it was considered a miracle that we all survived, and the case was written up in the annals of medical history by the attending specialist, who was president of the medical board. Now, as a student of Christian Science, I know that strong faith in God brought us all through. For we reasoned that since we had come through so much, surely God meant us all to be happy together. This thought called me back when it was believed that I was passing on and guarded our babies through many nights of watchful prayer. At this time it did not occur to us to ask for Christian Science, although the words, "God is Love," seemed to be before me constantly. Surely God was preparing me for it.
The period of convalescence with its attending expenses of specialists, nurses, and special hospitalization, wiped out our savings. Then there followed within the next year a se ries of thefts, fire, a bank crash, and uncollectibel accounts, which resulted in the loss of our business. My mother suffered a nervous breakdown and my own strength had not returned, although I was under constant medical care, submitting to three blood injections a week. I could not care for my home duties and my babies, and since I had little expection of ever having normal strength, I found myself growing weaker and in a state of confusion and fear.
Altogether discouraged and in great mental anguish, I asked this doctor what he knew of Christian Science, and he replied that he knew it to be good and that it might help me, for medical science could do no more. He said that I was on the verge of a complete collapse and that at least Science should give me a brighter outlook. I went from his office to that of a practitioner, and never shall I forget the beautiful truths that were told me. I had been a Bible student all my life, searching in many churches for the fulfillment of God's promises, but what a joyful message it was to hear that the calamities that had befallen us were not sent from God, because He sends His children only good. I was told to be grateful, and as this gratitude grew in my thought, my health improved accordingly. Each false claim has been repudiated, and I now enjoy more strength and have more physical endurance than ever before in my life, as I had always been considered a delicate child, having been taken out of school one year. My weight is now normal, and my entire appearance has changed.
