From birth I suffered from ill-health,...
From birth I suffered from illhealth, which eventually, in 1932, resulted in a malignant growth. At that time I came in touch with a previous pupil of mine who had found Christian Science. She talked to me of it, and at last, feeling I was growing steadily weaker, I decided to go to the Christian Science church service and become a Christian Scientist, "when I should never be ill again." So, the following Sunday I went to the service and walked home on air. Then I began to really study the spiritual meaning of the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
From that time the various symptoms gradually dropped away, and I have been and am a healthy woman. But it is only in recent years that I have realized that the real healing was a complete change of thought. Whereas I had thought of myself as always ill and wrapped in matter, now I know that I am well—that man is made in the image and likeness of God.
I have had many healings since then, including those of a fractured wrist, burns, and need of supply. One day I returned home from church feeling very much uplifted by the service and took my dog for a walk. Presently he came to me crying, and I found the dewclaw on one paw torn off and hanging by a thread of skin. I put it back in place, but the pain was so great that he bit my thumb completely through. However, I still so strongly felt the inspiration gained at the service that we were able to continue our walk, during which I declared the oneness of God and knew that accidents cannot happen to His creation.
