SINCERITY'S ACCOMPLISHMENT

In her Message to The Mother Church for 1900, Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 9), "Sincerity is more successful than genius or talent." Thus the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science cuts through worldly intellectual standards and reveals the simple quality of sincerity as a requisite for success. Mrs. Eddy is speaking of the work of reformers in that passage, and its truth is applicable to every type of spiritual endeavor. One need not despair of the seeming lack of human talents in his effort to be useful in God's service if he possesses the lively quality of sincerity, for sincerity opens mental doors to the spiritual riches of divine Mind.

Sincerity accomplishes much because it originates in Truth, God, and has the support of omnipotent Principle, which impels it. Sincerity implies integrity of purpose—freedom from hypocrisy and deception. It does not pretend one thing and secretly cherish another, but keeps in the direct line of honesty. One who is sincere aligns himself with divinity and finds his opportunities for true usefulness ever broadening and deepening. When honesty impels motives, success is sure to follow, for God multiplies the good He makes and reveals latent spiritual capabilities in those who love good. In fact, sincerity evidences the appearing of God's image, the real man, whose function is to unfold the attributes and grand purposes of Spirit.

Sincerity provides one with a direct approach to his objective. For instance, anyone sincerely desiring to know God and do His will is ready to put aside every personal interest and false characteristic that would prevent his progress in that direction. Mrs. Eddy makes great demands on sincerity. She says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 11), "We know that a desire for holiness is requisite in order to gain holiness; but if we desire holiness above all else, we shall sacrifice everything for it." Herein lies the test of sincerity— the ability to give up every unholy thought or belief that would contradict the spiritual truths required for a demonstration of Christian Science.
