I am indeed grateful that I was...

I am indeed grateful that I was forced to turn to Christian Science after all other systems of healing had failed. The study and application of the truths of the Christ, as illumined by Christian Science and reduced to a demonstrable Science by God's messenger, Mary Baker Eddy, have brought to me a new heaven and a new earth, where man is not sick and miserable, but Godlike and free.

After five years of intense suffering—most of which was spent in a private sanatorium in an effort to regain my health—and four operations and many treatments, I was told by the physicians that they had done all they knew how to do and I would be an invalid the rest of my life. I was then willing to try Christian Science, which had been offered me twice during these years.

My healing was slow, but from the first I knew I had found something that would not fail me if I strictly obeyed the rules given. My weary thought drank in the healing truths in our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, as a dry sponge takes up water, I learned that "health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind" (Science and Health, p. 120), for health means wholeness or perfection, and Jesus' admonition is, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." I began to be able to do the things other young women of twenty-five were doing and to express normal activity.
