THE PATRIARCHS AND THE CHRIST

Christian Science proves that the freedom or redemption of mankind is attained by means of the Christ. In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines the Christ (p. 583) as, "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error."

When God is understood, the Christ is manifest, and this manifestation is seen in man. Mortals are the counterfeits of man. They bear no resemblance to man than discord bears to music. Just as discord is sound without harmony, so a discordant mortal is a misunderstanding of man.

We have only to turn to the Bible and study it in the light which Christian Science sheds to find the Christ, or manifestation of God, coming to men and women in a variety of ways, always inspiring and redeeming them. Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 333), "Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and the prophets caught glo rious glimpses of the Messiah, or Christ, which baptized these seers in the divine nature, the essence of Love."
