Because our beloved Leader,...
Because our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was wise enough to see the need and provide for Wednesday testimony meetings, my parents, like many others, were first introduced to Christian Science through this channel. Some years later my mother was going through a difficult period. Remembering the testimony meeting she had at tended several years before, she looked up a Christian Science church in the city where we were living. I was enrolled in the Sunday School at the age of four and a half.
Since that time I have been helped and protected by the truths taught me in the Sunday School. When my mother passed on, I continued attendance the Sunday School, and I can say with conviction that I do not know into what snares I would have fallen if I had not had the truths of God and my relation to Him instilled into my consciousness. Many times while very young I was left alone in a large city because of my father's employment. When fears or erroneous conditions came into my experience, I would pray aloud the truths taught me, including the Lord's Prayer, the "Daily Prayer" as given in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy (Art. VIII, Sect. 4), and "the scientific statement of being" by Mrs. Eddy, given on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," until my fears were stilled. During this period many friendships were formed which have been continuous. And for the loving and unselfish support of a practitioner who came into my life at that time, I shall never cease to be grateful.
I have had many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science. Various childhood diseases were met quickly when Science treatment was asked for, also stomach disorders, headaches, colds, and a sprained ankle. The last was an outstanding healing because of the quickness with which it came about; in a very few hours I was able to walk on the foot, perfectly free. Foreign particles in the eyes have been removed by declarations of the truth. The gradual overcoming of false traits of character is a great blessing. Better home environment has been provided on many occasions. Progress in business has been constant. After some prayerful work we were lifted out of one business and moved to a distant city, where we were able to prove a greater abundance of joy and gratitude in our daily work, and naturally a more profitable living was ours. A desire for a home of our own in this new city was satisfied, and I soon had the privilege of joining the Church of Christ, Scientist, in this community and of serving in many of its activities. This opportunity brought with it more joy, growth, and progress.
