Our family first heard of Christian Science...

Our family first heard of Christian Science in the year 1906. A relative was instantly healed when, following an unsuccessful major operation, the doctors said she could not live. The practitioner who worked for her lived at least two thousand miles away. This healing made a deep impression on all of us, and we gave God the praise; however, we did not study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, enough to gain the spiritual sense of it.

After our first child was born, I had very poor health; and after the third baby came, doctors said I had liver and gall bladder trouble, but they dared not operate on me because I was so weak. Several months later, during the depression, my husband lost his work, and my condition became alarming. Everything seemed black and hopeless. One day the thought came: "Why not get Science and Health and study it until I do understand it? If others can, I can too."

I studied diligently for six days, and what a revelation! A voice said, "I am the Lord that healeth thee" (Ex. 15:26). I was speechless with amazement and reverence to God. I knew for the first time that He is "a very present help in trouble." And I had proved that Science and Health is indeed a "key" to the Scriptures. Many healings followed, including that of unemployment, and we were again a happy family. I had been instantly healed, and the difficulty has never returned in over eighteen years.
