For a long time it has been my...

For a long time it has been my desire to write a testimony and tell of what Christian Science has done for me. When I heard of this Science through a friend, I thought of it as just another religion; but it somehow appealed to me, and a few years later it was the means of healing me of a troublesome difficulty of long standing.

It was impossible for me to walk without pain or assistance, and my wife and I had spent all our savings and were borrowing money in order to pay for medical treatment for me. At this time I recalled the healing of my friend through Christian Science, and I had a great desire to talk to him about it. This desire soon was fulfilled, and I was taken to a sincere and loving Christian Science practitioner. As a result of our talk, a new world of thinking opened up for me. This consecrated practitioner was careful to explain many things to me: the place that our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, occupies in this age; her teachings as set forth in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" its relationship to the Bible (King James Version); and at the same time I was assured that my healing was possible through the application of this truth.

I was asked to read "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of our textbook while the treatment was being given. It did not seem to me then that there was any change taking place in my thinking; nevertheless, many erroneous thoughts were being replaced with good ones at that very time. It did not seem possible that I was ever to walk without pain or difficulty, and when the treatment was completed I reached for the usual material aids; but as a result of the practitioner's clear declaration of the truth I walked home free. It was with much joy that I told my wife that this had been accomplished without the use of materia medica.
